'From a concrete danger to concrete art'
Since then, independent artistic practice; since 2023, exclusively concrete.
Dirk Sanner began his artistic career as a painter at the age of 27, starting with waterscapes that were followed by urban landscapes showing mostly two people sitting on chairs in front of a city backdrop. The paintings featuring people on chairs symbolize the artist's friendship with Max Schmidt-Craghs, with whom he appears to be sitting on the chairs.
Since 2008, the first non-representational prime number paintings have been created, programmatically aligning with the visual principles of the De Stijl artist group. Since 2023, the artist has been working exclusively in concrete art. Works from this concrete series have been exhibited since 2015—including in the exhibition "Die neue Sinnlichkeit in der Kunst" at JVA Magdeburg, in the edition exhibitions of Galerie R8M in Cologne in 2022, 2023, and 2024, and at Kunstverein Wiligrad.
